The mayor stated in the January 2023 "Mayors Newsletter" that the Building Department issued over 2500 permits in 2022.  Since this was included to help describe to us the "State of the City" with no verbiage to describe how this was good, bad, or how it may have compared to previous years, we gathered more information.

Below are three (3) graphics providing more detailed information about the City of Pocatello permit numbers.

1st Graphic: Table of the 22 types and quantities of permits issued. Color-coded to highlight "new housing" related permits and also existing dwelling additions/alterations.

2nd Graphic: Historical permit numbers and valuations for comparison purposes found in archived City Service Level Reports & older permit reports.

3rd Graphic:  The same permits from the 1st graphic grouped into 7 “divisions” (created by P.A.G.E.) for a simpler "grouped" visual representation.

It's common for the City to provide the public with very broad numbers. While that’s OK as an overview, a broad number naturally lacks important details. Broad numbers don’t often show the “big picture” necessary to fully understand a state, condition or situation. When we see broad numbers shared with the public, we automatically ask what is (is not) included?
